Holly ’78 and Holly ’51 earn ‘Great Workplace’ designation 2/19/15

Sage Rutty & Co. Inc., Rochester, NY, has been named to the new “Great Rated! People’s Picks: 20 Great Workplaces in Financial Services” listing by GreatRated.com and Fortune.com.

Sage Rutty’s chairman and president is Wayne Holly, AU Class of 1978. His father, former president and CEO, is from the AU Class of 1951.

Gittens ’93 produces several ‘Everyday Dramas’ 2/12/15

A cable television series produced by La-Verne Cody Gittens, AU Class of 1993, will feature “Keith Beauchamp: ‘The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till’ The Injustice Files” Sunday, Feb. 15, at 5:30 p.m. Also, on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. look for “Basir Mchawi Discusses Selma.

Yatom ’88 opens exhibit in Israel 2/12/15

The Open Museum in Tefen, Galilee and Golan region, Israel, opens “In the Place Farthest from Tel Aviv,” works by the sculptor Varda Yatom, Saturday, Feb. 14 with a closing scheduled for October 2015. Varda is a member of the AU Class of 1988.

Varda, one of the world's ten best ceramic sculptors, exhibits her works in Israel and abroad yet always returns to Galilee, where she lives and works on Kibbutz Sasa. This exhibition features seven new series she created in recent years.

Ehrlich ’77 named fellow by national science association 2/12/15

Garth D. Ehrlich, Ph.D., member of the AU Class of 1977, has been named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), one of the few general honorary societies that cut across all scientific and engineering disciplines.

Brennan ’98 shows paintings in San Francisco gallery 2/05/15

New York artist Patrick Brennan, AU Class of 1998, is exhibiting his paintings in a solo show at Romer Young Gallery, San Francisco, through Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015.

“I like being caught between the known and unknown,” says Patrick. “There is an excitement around not being able to categorize the paintings. I’m happy to see them set the viewer ‘off course a bit.’”

News Image Blanchard ’86, University trustee, elected member of National Engineering Academy 2/05/15

Dr. Cheryl Blanchard, AU Class of 1986 and a member of the AU Board of Trustees, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), one of 67 new U.S. members; 12 new foreign members were also elected. Total U.S. membership now stands at 2,263.

Cheryl is chief executive officer and member of the board of MicroCHIPS Inc., a developer of implantable drug delivery devices in Lexington, MA.

Bruce ’08 and student singing group featured in online article 1/29/15

Local online media Rochesterhomepage.net featured an article Jan. 29, 2015, featuring AU alumnus Chaz Bruce 1’08 and his student group Exit Sign:

“The local acapella group Exit Sign performed with Grammy award winner and music educator, Kent Knappenburger.
        
Four young men ages 16-18 are part of Exit Sign and their director is Chaz Bruce, a musical educator himself.

News Image Alfred University School of Art and Design hosting 'Parallel Frequencies' by glass artists 1/26/15

The School of Art and Design at Alfred University will show “Parallel Frequencies,” an exhibition of six glass artists, including five alumni, in the Cohen Gallery beginning Friday, Jan. 30.

There will be an opening reception Friday from 5-7 p.m.; the public is invited.  Featuring work by Robin Cass ’98, Amie McNeel, Rachel Moore ’01, Jackie Pancari ’96, Kait Rhoads ’01, and Norwood Viviano’95, the exhibition runs through Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015.
