News Image Stewart ’08 organizes solo exhibition for Zweygardt, professor emeritus 4/14/16

Grace Stewart, collections and exhibition manager for the Metal Museum, Memphis, TN, organized the museum’s current exhibition, “F.I.R.E. (Foundry Invitational and River Exhibition) Glenn Zweygardt: Then & Now.”

Grace is a member of the AU Class of 2008. Zweygardt is professor emeritus of sculpture from the School of Art and Design, College of Ceramics at AU. Zweygardt is the visiting artist/demonstrator for the museum’s second annual F.I.R.E. event.

News Image New Godward ’05 works are ‘Untitled’ 4/13/16

New sculpture by Brooklyn-based Ben Godward, AU Class of 2005, will be shown at the Valentine Gallery – in the garden – beginning Friday, April 15 with an opening event from 6-9 p.m. The exhibit runs through Sunday, May 15. His show is called “Untitled.”

News Image The late Benmosché ’66 book focuses on his successful AIG turnaround 4/13/16

A little more than a year following his death, the posthumous release of Robert Benmosché’s book – “Robert Benmosche, Good for the Money: My Fight to Pay Back America” - is drawing overwhelming positive response. In his autobiography, written with Peter Marks and Valerie Hendy, Robert, a member of the AU Class of 1966 and University trustee 1996-05, focuses mostly on his time as chief executive of AIG (American Insurance Group), when he engineered one of the most extraordinary corporate turnarounds in American financial history.

News Image Pye ’59 tapped to receive Toledo Glass and Ceramic Award at annual meeting 4/06/16

Dr. L. David Pye, dean and professor of glass science, emeritus, College of Ceramics, and member of the AU Class of ’59, has been selected to receive the 2016 Toledo (Ohio) Glass and Ceramic Award given annually by the Michigan/Northwest Ohio Section of American Ceramic Society.

The Award will be presented to him in Toledo, April 14, at the annual meeting of the Section. As customary, as part of this Award, Pye will present a lecture entitled “Glass Science, Glass Art: Taking a Look Back.”

News Image Pastusec ’11 presents an ‘Abstraction from Anxiety’ in her solo exhibition of her art 3/31/16

Abstract art works by Dana Pastusec, AU Class of 2011, are on display in “Abstraction from Anxiety” through Sunday, April 10 in the Ewing Family Community Room, Wood Library, Canandaigua, NY.

Dana, who developed anxiety and panic disorder during high school, maintains art has helped her cope. While at AU, she participated in a variety of art courses with a concentration in film photography and glass blowing; she graduated with a fine arts degree with a minor in psychology.

AU trustee to discuss innovation, managing change during next Bergren Forum program 3/24/16

Alfred University’s (AU) longstanding lunchtime series, the Bergren Forum, continues Thursday, March 31, at 12:10 p.m. in Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center with “Reflections on Innovation & Managing Change” from Tom Hinman, AU trustee and former general manager of environmental technologies at Corning Inc. The program is free and open to the public.

News Image Schuster '81 named Empire 8 Conference coordinator of football officials 3/24/16

The Empire 8 Athletic Conference has named 1981 Alfred University (AU) alumnus Bill Schuster coordinator of football officials.

"I am excited for the opportunity to give back to my own profession," said Schuster. "I am also looking forward to working closely with administration, athletic directors, and coaches to create an atmosphere of professional growth in officiating."

Schuster currently trains and evaluates NCAA game officials in the Big Ten and Mid-American Conference as well as scheduling officials for spring and summer scrimmage activities at the University of Buffalo.

He has been an official with the National Football League (NFL) since 2000 and has 11 years of NCAA college officiating experience.

News Image Record turnout at Career Development Center’s spring job fair, etiquette dinner 3/24/16

The AU Career Development Center (CDC) staff reports its annual spring job fair was a record-breaking success. More than 250 students attended the fair which featured 62 employers seeking to fill positions for summer staff and interns, volunteers, and full-time employees.

News Image Golf scramble to benefit AU athletics 3/24/16

Alfred University is hosting a golf outing as part of Reunion Weekend to benefit the AU intercollegiate athletic program.

The 2016 Alfred University Saxon Golf Classic will be held Friday, June 10, at the Wellsville Country Club. Proceeds from the four-person scramble tournament will directly benefit all 19 AU intercollegiate athletic teams.
