Letter to the Class of 1963:
February 20, 2013
Dear Classmate:
Already, 2013 is upon us and that means that our 50th class year Reunion is right around the corner. Before we know it, it will be the weekend of June 7-9 and hopefully all of us will be back on the AU campus reliving the wonderful memories that we all share. The theme for Reunion is “We Think the World” of Alfred University Alumni.
Some events to look forward to are the Seven Wonders of Alfred Tour and the Craft Show on Friday afternoon and Saturday Morning. On Friday night, some members of the Alfred University faculty will be singing international music in the Knight Club and on Saturday night, we will enjoy our honored class dinner with President Edmondson and his spouse Dr. Laura Greyson. Following dinner, the International Coffee and Dessert event will be held in the newly renovated Ade Hall. The very popular photo booth, located in the Powell Campus Center, will be back this year to help you capture new memories with all of your friends, and there will be much more to enjoy!
As your class coordinators, our goal is to have the highest possible attendance at our 50th year Reunion and to also have a record number for participation in the Reunion Giving Program. Please join us in both efforts. We are excited to gather with you during Reunion weekend to experience AU as it is today. In addition please consider making a gift this year to the Alfred Fund in honor of the Class of 1963. For those of you who have already made your gift, thank you!
We’d like to share with you our feelings about Alfred University. AU means so much to each of us in our own way. However, what we have in common is that, on our own level, we support the Alfred Fund.
“When I am asked to contribute to Alfred, there are several reasons why I respond favorably. Alfred gave me the opportunity to grow academically through a variety of classes I was offered. I was allowed one-on-one tutorials with the Chairman of the Department, the late Dr. Ernest Finch. Where else can one have such an experience? As it turns out, I became an attorney where the ability to write and speak clearly and effectively is an essential qualification. In addition, attending a school like Alfred gave me the opportunity to participate in varsity sports and serve as President of the Interfraternity Council. These experiences helped prepare me for leadership roles in my adult life. Lastly, while at AU, I formed many meaningful personal relationships that continue to this day.
Whether you choose to give large or small, reflect on the things you took away from Alfred that have stayed with you through the years as they have for me. And remember--when you do give--you are "giving back." ~ John
“I love Alfred University! My memories of my time at Alfred are of an environment of warmth, friendliness and encouragement. The opportunities to grow and learn were endless and abundant. In all these years since, I have seen Alfred University hold fast to these qualities and standards in an ever shifting world. Giving to our school provides me the joy of still feeling a part of the Alfred community and the pleasure of seeing it flourish.” ~ Rhoda
“The Alfred experience enriched all aspects of my life, thereby launching me into a successful existence of continued learning. My gifts to Alfred are given in the hope that some others in need, as I was, will have similar treasured opportunities.” ~ Lynn
“Over the years I have had the opportunity to interact with AU students through on campus recruiting and in informal settings. They have impressed me with their backgrounds, skills, and personalities. They have reinforced my love for Alfred and what it has done for its students. I have supported the Alfred Fund on a regular basis since the early 90’s. I know that my gifts give today’s students the opportunities that I had. Because I feel so strongly about giving back to AU, I want to encourage each of you to do the same. I would like to offer a commemorative half dollar coin to anyone who makes a gift to AU in honor of our 50th class year Reunion, helping to solidify and pay tribute to your Reunion gift.” ~ Jud
