From organizing events - including Reunion  - to bringing Alfred University alumni together, to helping alumni stay in touch with each other in other ways, the Alumni and Community Relations staff is here to serve you.

An alumnus of Alfred University who has headed the alumni and community relations office since 2000, Mark also provides day-to-day control over internal operations and support functions for the University Relations division, and is responsible for all events, communications, mailing and policy issues.

Mark earned a bachelor's degree in sociology, and a master's in Community Services Administration.

Prior to joining the University Relations division, Mark was head football coach for Alfred State College for four years, and was assistant coach and athletics department business manager at AU for seven years prior to that.

Mark's avocation is cooking. He and his partners currently own Barbecue Bandits, a Kansas City-style barbecue catering business (You can sample their barbecued ribs at the Taste of Alfred during Reunion) and they recently acquired Manhattan West, a Main Street, Alfred, dining establishment, renaming it The Old West Food Co.

He and his wife, Nadine Dunlap Shardlow ’86, who is director of Opportunity Programs for the University, live in Almond, NY, with their two children.

Melissa has worked at Alfred University since 1995. In 2000, she transferred from Student Affairs to associate director of Alumni and Community Relations. She manages production and operations for the Annual Fund, doing both individual solicitations and direct mail.

Prior to coming to AU, Melissa worked for the American Publishing Company as an advertising representative for eight years.

She earned her bachelor's degree from SUNY Empire in 1999, and a Master of Business Administration degree from AU in 2003.

Her husband, Don, is a First Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy. They have two sons, Donnie and Bill, and make their home in Arkport, NY, where Melissa is involved in a number of community boards and committees.

Susan has been with Alfred University's Alumni and Community Relations since 2005 as assistant director. She manages the student Phon-a-thon Fundraising Program for annual giving and is responsible for recruiting, managing and training student callers. Susan is involved in event coordinating and in the Annual Giving and FSA fundraising campaigns.

Prior to joining AU, Gorman worked in business development with large corporate retailers, small businesses and international clientele as a sales representative for Northern Lights Enterprises. She was a company spokesperson on national television (QVC network) and at major international tradeshows. Susan brings with her six years of business management.

Susan earned her bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Mansfield University, PA in 1991.

She and her husband, Christopher, reside in Hornell, NY with two children and the family dog, and are involved in many community activities.
