Merrill Field

Merrill Field

Merrill Field is one of the finest outdoor collegiate athletic facilities in New York State. Few Division III schools have installed an NFL-quality artificial surface at their stadiums. The 'AstroTurf 12' system was installed at Merrill Field in the summer of 1999.

Merrill Field is the home of Saxons football, men's and women's lacrosse and men's and women's soccer teams and is also used for intramural sports, including softball, soccer, and flag football. Seating capacity: 5,000.

In 1991 the press box at Merrill Field was rededicated in memory of the late Johnny Nelson, who spent 32 years publicizing AU teams as Sports Information Director.

Jericho Hill Fields

Jericho Hill Fields

The scenic mountain top of Jericho Hill is the training site for Alfred University's men's and women's cross-country teams. The football team occasionally practices on the grass, in season. Men's and Women's Rugby (a club sport) also uses Jericho Hill Fields, and in winter, cross-country skiers use trails on the mountain as well.

AU Equestrian Students

Bromeley-Daggett Equestrian Center

Thanks to the generosity of Alfred University Trustee Rob Daggett, a 1981 alumnus of AU, and Catherine Bromeley Daggett, a 1958 graduate of the University, AU has a new, state-of-the-art equestrian facility that opened in August 2005.

The spacious new facility is located within a five-minute drive of campus on the Maris Cuneo Equine Park. It has offices, classrooms, viewing areas, a 200 x 80-foot indoor arena and two outdoor arenas, one 200 x 120-feet, and the other 100 x 100 feet. The 50 stalls accommodate both University-owned school horses and horses belonging to University students who want to board their own horses.

The University owns nearly 400 acres on Lake Road, so we have acres of turnout fields. Horseback trails will wind through the woods and around Foster Lake, which is also owned by the University.
