Gene Castrovillo, ’75 (M.S.)
Administration
Gene Castrovillo was appointed athletic trainer at Alfred University’s in 1969 and is largely credited with building an athletic training program that now offers an academic major and is fully accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
He was appointed athletic director in 1978 and held both the head trainer and AD positions until 1981. He served solely as athletic director from 1981 until his retirement in 1990.
Castrovillo is well known in training circles. He served as athletic trainer to the U.S. Junior National Basketball Team in 1979; was athletic trainer at the U.S. Sports Festival in Colorado Springs in that same year; was staff trainer at the Winter Olympic Games at Lake Placid in 1980; and is past president of the New York State and Eastern Athletic Trainers Association.
At AU he is known for his advocacy in growing women’s sports programs and also for improvements made to the athletic facilities, most notably the expansion of the McLane Center, including the installation of the fitness center.
Castrovillo earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of Maryland in 1967 and a master’s degree in education from Alfred in 1975. He is currently director of athletics at the Somerset (PA) Area School District and also owns and operates Oasis Sports Fitness Center in Somerset, PA.
Castrovillo and his wife, Linda, live in Somerset, PA, with their son, Anthony.

Steve Ratliff, ’82
Football
Steve Ratliff was a defensive end for the AU football team from 1978-81.
Ratliff enjoyed a tremendous senior season in 1981, when the the Saxons went unbeaten in the regular season (10-0) and earned the school’s only berth in the NCAA Division III championship tournament. He helped anchor a defense that allowed 9.4 points per game and 183 yards per contest, including a mere 65 yards rushing per game (tops in Division III). That year, Ratliff had 67 tackles, including a team-leading 10 sacks, and was named an Associated Press honorable mention All American and an ECAC Upstate First Team all-star.
Ratliff graduated from AU in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts. After graduation from AU, Ratliff played semi-pro football with the Syracuse Express from 1982-87, earning all-league honors each season. He was captain on the Express teams that won a pair of national championships (1985 and 1987).
He is currently president and CEO of Ratliff Rentals, a Baldwinsville, NY, business he founded in 1995.
Ratliff lives in North Syracuse with his wife, Heidi, and their, son, John, and daughter, Nicole.

Glenn Law, ’84
Football
Glenn Law played football for AU from 1981-83 and was the quarterback on the AU football team that played in the NCAA Division III championship tournament in 1981.
Law has held most major passing records at Alfred and still holds career for records pass completions (501), pass attempts (874), completions per game (16.2) and completion percentage (57.3). He also holds single-season records for pass completions per game (20.9), pass completions (209), and pass attempts (349). Entering this season, Law still held the career record for passing yardage (5,712).
He earned Associated Press All-American honors as a senior in 1983, when he completed 209 passes for a then single-season record 2,394 yards.
Law earned a bachelor’s degree in business from AU in 1984. He is currently senior account executive at New England Motor Freight’s Buffalo office.
Law and his wife, Sandra, live in Depew, NY, with their sons, Brian, Nick and Matthew.

Margaret Baleno, ’93
Alpine Skiing
Margaret Baleno is arguably the top women’s skier ever at AU.
She led her team to the United States Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA) Mid-Atlantic Regionals three times (1990, 1992, 1993) and to the USCSA National Championships once (1993), where the Saxons placed ninth, the women’s team’s best-ever finish at the nationals.
Baleno was the individual regional champion as a senior in 1993 and earned All-American honors by placing seventh at the national meet.
Baleno continues to ski competitively. Last winter, she was the top woman in the Snow Country New York Master’s Series and was the Eastern Regional and national champion for her age group.
A resident of Rochester, Baleno graduated from Alfred in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in education. She also earned a master’s degree in education from Nazareth College and is currently a middle school teacher in the Churchville-Chili School District.

Glenn Clinton, ’97
Track & Field
Glenn Clinton is one of the most decorated athletes in AU men’s track and field history, earning All-American honors five times in his four-year career on the indoor and outdoor teams.
He won a national championship in the outdoor 110-meter hurdles in 1994 and was second and third, respectively, in the outdoor 110-meter hurdles in 1995 and 1993. Clinton was outstanding indoors as well, placing third nationally in the 55-meter hurdles in 1995 and eighth in the same event in 1994.
Clinton was also the New York State champion in the indoor 55-meter hurdles and the outdoor 110-meter hurdles his junior and senior years and was state runner-up in both events as a sophomore in 1993. Clinton holds Alfred University records in the 55-meter indoor hurdles and the 110-meter outdoor hurdles and was a member of the 4-by-100 meter outdoor relay that set a school record in 1995.
He was captain of the track and field teams from 1992-95 and and was also a receiver on the AU football team from 1991-93.
Clinton earned a bachelor’s degree in ceramic engineering from AU in 1997 and is currently a technical sales manager for UK Abrasives, Inc. He and his wife, Sharlene, live in Randallstown, MD, with their son, Jair.
