Children & Youth Learning InitiativeService and Leadership
The Children and Youth Learning Initiative (CYLI) is a grant funded program hosted by Alfred University that brings area middle and high school students to campus for hands-on educational programming that focuses on encouraging college attendance.

The Story in Numbers
In the 2008-09 school year, CYLI served over 600 students from rural schools in Allegany and Steuben Counties with over 30 programs. Alfred students have volunteered over 328 hours to assist the program and, in return, have received rewarding leadership experience. Alfred faculty and staff have given 90 hours of programming to the community.

CYLI at AU
CYLI began offering programming in 2004, and has been growing ever since.

In 2008, CYLI partnered with the Allegany County Community Opportunities and Rural Development (ACCORD Corporation) to bring programming to its after school programs at Andover, Belfast, Bolivar-Richburg, Canaseraga, Scio, Immaculate Conception School, and Whitesville.

In 2009-10 CYLI has begun an ambitious partnership with Alfred University's Department of Education to give Alfred students real experience with children and has also began a partnership with the Council on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU) to train teachers in the "Kids 2 College" curriculum.
