Introduction
A scholarship is a form of gift assistance that does not require repayment. It usually denotes a merit-based award which recognizes academic achievement and promise or another special attribute. Alfred University offers a wide variety of scholarships to acknowledge the special abilities of new transfer students. Students can apply for most of the scholarships listed, except as noted, by completing the application for admission.
Note: Alfred University scholarships are awarded by the Office of Admissions' Scholarship Committee prior to enrollment at Alfred University. Unless otherwise noted, they require continuous full-time (minimum of 12 credit hours per semester) enrollment. Requirements for continued receipt of an Alfred University scholarship as a returning student are noted below under the specific scholarship.
Academic Program Key for Scholarships
Alfred University is a private institution. However, some of our academic programs receive support from NY State. State-supported programs have a different tuition structure than the private college programs. In addition, the tuition structure varies among the private college programs. Therefore, the dollar value of University scholarship awards will vary depending on enrollment in a specific private college program or a State-supported program, and the student's NY State residency status.
STATE-SUPPORTED PROGRAMS include:
- School of Art & Design
- Biomedical Materials Engineering Science
- Ceramic Engineering
- Glass Engineering Science
- Materials Science and Engineering
PRIVATE COLLEGE PROGRAMS include:
- College of Liberal Arts & Sciences
- College of Business
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Undecided Engineering
Multiple Scholarship Policy and Scholarship Award Values
Multiple Scholarship Policy
With the exception of the Competition Scholarships, students are not permitted to simultaneously receive multiple Alfred University scholarships. In cases where students qualify for more than one scholarship, the award of greater value will be made. Tuition Exchange and Tuition Remission recipients may not receive a University scholarship in addition to these benefits. However, Tuition Exchange and Tuition Remission recipients eligible for a scholarship are recognized with certificates acknowledging their academic achievements.
In addition to its academic scholarship programs, Alfred is committed to a strong need-based financial aid program. University funded grants, loans and endowed scholarships are available to qualified applicants based on financial need.
Scholarship Award Values
Scholarship amounts reflected on this web page are effective with the fall semester 2009 for transfer students enrolling at Alfred University for the first time. Scholarship awards to currently enrolled students will remain at the student's award value when admitted to AU.
