Alfred's Counseling program is a 62-credit-hour program offering specializations in school counseling or mental health counseling.
Mental Health Counseling
Alfred's mental health counseling track consists of 62 credit hours of coursework and supervised practica and internship experiences leading to a Master of Science in Education and Certificate of Advanced Study. Students gain applied experiences in the Child and Family Services clinic on campus, as well as in various mental health agencies in the community. The mental health program is registered as a Licensure Qualified Program in New York State and satisfies all the educational requirements for students to become Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC).
School Counseling
Alfred's school counseling track consists of 62 credit hours of coursework and supervised practica and internship experiences in schools leading to a Master of Science in Education and Certificate of Advanced Study. Students specializing in school counseling will receive provisional certification as a NYS school counselor upon completion of the program, and have all coursework completed for permanent certification requirements as well.
