Anyone
with an outstanding high school record and a broad range
of interests may apply. To gauge how you stack up with
students in the program, here are some helpful statistics:
- There are about 120 students in Alfred’s Honors
Program.
- There are generally 40-55 applicants per year and about
two-thirds are accepted.
- 15-20% of the Honors students are National Merit Scholars.
- The majority of Honors students were in the top 5%
of their high school class; nearly all were in the top
10%.
- The middle 50% of Honors freshmen have combined SAT
scores
between 1270 and 1410.
- Many applicants have taken AP or college-level courses.
The single most important admission
consideration is your high school transcript. If you are
a New York State resident, your Regents grades will be
a factor. A recommendation from someone at your high school
who knows your academic work is a must. Finally, your
essay application for Honors is taken very seriously.
Early notification for application
to the Honors Program is March 15, and all applications
are due no later than June 1. If you would like an
