International Students Office
Travel

International students, scholars, faculty, and staff at Alfred University are strongly urged to check with the International Students Office prior to traveling outside of the United States. A staff member will determine if you have all the required documentation for re-entry to the U.S. (e.g., a valid entry visa, a valid passport, required signatures on various forms etc.). Failure to check with a qualified staff member prior to departing the United States may result in difficulties when seeking to re-enter if you do not have all the required documentation.

F-1 STUDENTS
F-1 students must have a valid passport and a valid F-1 visa in order to re-enter the Untied States. In addition, a Designated School Official (DSO) in the International Students Office must endorse page two of the Form I-20. If you are engaged in Optional Practical Training following completion of studies, you will also need a valid Employment Authorization Document (EAD Card).

If you will be applying for a new F-1 visa at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate abroad, you will need additional documentation as well (see Visa).

J-1 STUDENTS & SCHOLARS
J-1 students and scholars must have a valid passport and a valid J-1 visa in order to re-enter the Untied States. In addition, the Responsible Officer (RO) or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) in the International Students Office must endorse the back of the Form IAP-66. If you will be applying for a new J-1 visa at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate abroad, you will need additional documentation as well (see Visa).
