| The Child and Family Services Center (CFSC) provides psychoeducational assessment and counseling services to children and families. The center also provides consultation to schools and other agencies in the community. Clinical services are provided by advanced masters and doctoral students under the supervision of School Psychology faculty.
The Lea R. Powell Institute for Children and Families provides support to the CFSC that allows for the continuation of services, as well as student training, beyond the academic calendar year. The development of additional services to the community has become possible with Institute support. Among the ongoing community outreach programs provided by the CFSC is the Even Start Family Literacy Partnership, a collaboration between the Powell Institute and the Cattaraugus-Allegany Board of Cooperative Educational Services aimed at improving literacy skills in poor rural school districts. Services provided to Even Start families through CFSC include family evaluations, family therapy and educational support groups, all designed to foster a better learning environment in the home.
The Children and Family Services Center is located in the former Pi Alpha Pi sorority house. The renovation of the Center was funded primarily by a gift from Lea Powell, with gifts from Pi Alpha Pi, including a bequest from Alfred alumna and sorority member Evelyn Openhym, and the Ross Foundation of Rochester. |
