| In Honor of: | John P. Herrick
Addition: 1978 Drake Library Wing, in honor of: M. Ellis Drake |
| In this building: | Herrick Memorial Library Information Technology Services |
Built in 1957, Herrick Memorial Library was designed to hold 200,000 volumes and provide seating for 300 people. In less than 20 years, needs had again outstripped space and the Drake Library Wing was added in 1978 to house the library's periodicals and to provide more study space and seminar rooms. At the same time, a Special Collections Room was created on the top floor of the original building. Oak paneling from a 17th century English manor gives the room an ambiance that is enhanced by leather and brocaded chairs, oak tables and gleaming brass lamps.
Today - honoring the University's commitment to support current and future technology - Herrick Library has integrated electronic information resources into its services and collections.
Information Technology Services occupies half of the ground floor. Students go there to sign up for an e-mail account and/or talk with Help Desk staff.
