AU People Bonnie Ye ’07, who majored in accounting with a minor in marketing, says her fledgling career with AVX Corporation in Myrtle Beach, SC, is both exciting and challenging. She started as an internal auditor and is now a financial analyst. “I have had a chance to work with people from all over the world,” she says. “I am able to learn new things every day from my supervisors and colleagues. It’s important to enhance my knowledge in order to be competitive with others.” “Alfred taught me many skills that I continue to use in the real world,” says Bonnie, who was the Marlin Miller Outstanding Senior Woman for 2007. “From involving myself in extracurricular activities at Alfred, I’ve developed strong teamwork, communication and organizational skills that I can apply to my job assignments. Alfred also taught me not to be afraid of anything as I moved to Myrtle Beach without knowing anyone and now have met many great friends.” And she’s continuing to be involved in “extracurricular” activities. “I love organizing events, something I discovered about myself while I was in Alfred,” says Bonnie. She is a volunteer for the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce and just joined the board of directors for Meals on Wheels on Horry County, Inc. For students who plan to enter the field of accounting, Bonnie recommends “getting involved in several academic and student clubs. It’s important to participate beyond the classroom because it is through those organizations that you learn to apply your knowledge from the books and use what you’ve learned in hands-on projects. I personally enjoyed working on team projects either with my classes or student club events. It’s important to be well-rounded academically and socially.”
