ALFRED — Three Alfred University football players were recently named to USA Football Division III All-America teams.

Brian Keefer (Jamestown/Maple Grove), a senior strong safety, was named to the First Team. Keefer had been named a USA Football Honorable Mention All-America in the preseason.

Keefer, who was also named to USA Football’s First Team for independent Division III programs, finished his career at AU as the third-leading career tackler with 317. This season he had a team-high 85 tackles, including 11 for losses, and six sacks. He was named to the U.S. squad that played against Mexico in the Aztec Bowl, a Division III All-Star game played Dec. 16 in Merida, Mexico.

Senior placekicker Ryan Rambacher (Bemus Point/Maple Grove) was named Honorable Mention All-America by USA Football for all Division III schools and was named a member of the First Team for independent programs. Rambacher finished his career as Alfred’s all-time leader in points scored by a placekicker with 161 points and career extra points with 92.

Jesse Raynor (Weedsport/Weedsport), a sophomore tailback, was named Second Team All-America for independent schools. Raynor, despite playing as a backup for most of the 2000 season, ran for nearly 1,000 yards and led the team in scoring with 13 touchdowns. He had six 100-plus yard rushing games, including five straight to end the season, and broke school single game records for rushing yardage (265) and touchdowns scored (five) in a 41-7 win over Canisius.
