Saxons beat Albany College of Pharmacy, 82-55

ALBANY, NY – The Alfred University men’s basketball team shot 47 percent from the floor and forced 26 turnovers Monday afternoon and claimed an 82-55 victory over host Albany College of Pharmacy.

The Saxons (7-8, 2-4 Empire 8) were outrebounded, 42-32, but held their opponent to 38 percent shooting. While the hosts were turning the ball over 26 times, Alfred made only eight miscues and connected on nine three-point shots to help snap a two-game losing streak.

Senior forward Carl Embury (Perry, NY/Perry) paced AU with 20 points on seven-of-11 shooting (six of nine from three-point range), four rebounds and three steals. Junior guard Bobby Barry (Duanesburg, NY/Duanesburg) had 15 points, while junior forward Jared Patt (Nelson, PA/Elkland) and sophomore guard Mike Stopera netted 12 and 11 points, respectively. Sophomore point guard Gary Kwiecien (Perry, NY/Perry) had nine points, five assist and four steals, while freshman center Matt Borsz (Columbia Station, OH/Midview) chipped in with four points and six boards.

Bryan Jones led Albany College of Pharmacy with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Peter Aiken had 12 points and six boards and Ben Sheppard added 11 points.

Alfred is in action next on Friday, Jan. 23, at 8 p.m. at home against St. John Fisher.
