Lady Saxons beat RIT, 77-48

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women’s basketball team outrebounded visiting RIT, 49-34, and defeated the Tigers 77-48 Tuesday evening at the McLane Center.

The Lady Saxons (7-6, 2-4 Empire 8)shot 43.1 percent from the field compared to only 30.9 percent by the RIT Tigers. The outcome was never really in doubt as the Saxons held a 41-22 advantage at the half. Alfred also shared the ball well during the contest, dishing out 21 assists to RIT’s 11.

Leading the way for Alfred was freshmen guard Christina Jordan (Cornwall-on-the Hudson, NY/Cornwall) who scored 22 points, on eight-of-12 shooting, sinking six three-pointers, and had five rebounds. In addition, sophomore point guard Lyndsay Murphy (Almond NY/Hornell) had a solid all around game, scoring 18 points, pulling down nine rebounds, and dishing out six assists. Junior guard Lisa Button (Troupsburg, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) led the team in rebounding with 12.

Danielle Furman paced RIT (3-12, 0-6 Empire 8) with 14 points, three rebounds and two assists.

Alfred is in action next on Friday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m. at home against St. John Fisher.
