AU women’s basketball team knocks off visiting Fisher, 68-57

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball defeated visiting St. John Fisher, 68-57, Friday evening at the McLane Center.

The Lady Saxons (8-6, 3-4 Empire 8) shot 46 percent from the field en route to beating the Cardinals for the first time in 25 meetings all-time. AU forced 25 Fisher turnovers, while committing just 15 of their own, and held their own with Fisher on the boards, pulling down 30 rebounds to the Cardinals’ 36.

Pacing AU was sophomore point guard Lyndsay Murphy (Almond, NY/Hornell) with a game-high 26 points on nine-of-13 shooting to go with six assists and four steals. Senior forward Melanie Jackson (Andover, NY/Wellsville) recorded 23 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Junior forward Alysha Dias (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) and freshmen forward Christina Jordan (Cornwall on Hudson NY, Cornwall) scored seven and six points, respectively.

Colleen Maloney paced Fisher (9-4, 3-2 Empire 8) with 18 points and six rebounds. Kristen Taliento was the leading rebounder for Fisher with eight and Mary Kate Comfort chipped in with 14 points.

Alfred is in action next on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m. when they play at Nazareth College.
