Visiting Fisher hands Saxons 77-46 loss

ALFRED, NY — The visiting St. John Fisher men’s basketball team beat host Alfred University, 77-46, Friday evening at the McLane Center.

The visiting Cardinals shot 55 percent from the field while holding AU to 27 percent, and held a decided 46-26 rebounding advantage. With the win, Fisher improves to 13-2 on the year (5-1 Empire 8), while the Saxons drop to 7-9 (2-5 Empire 8).

Senior forward Carl Embury (Perry, NY/Perry) scored 12 points to pace Alfred, while sophomore guard Mike Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) added 11 points, two assists and a pair of steals. Junior guard Bobby Barry (Duanesbuerg, NY/Duanesburg) had nine points and junior forward Jared Patt (Nelson, PA/Elkland) chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.

Ozell Franklin netted a game-high 21 points, making five three-pointers, to lead Fisher. Mike Wopperer had 10 points and four rebounds and Brandon Witte blocked five shots.

AU is in action next on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 8 p.m. at Nazareth.
