Nazareth knocks of Saxons, 80-64

PITTSFORD, NY – Host Nazareth defeated the Alfred University men’s basketball team, 80-64, Tuesday evening.

The host team outrebounded AU, 41-31, and shot 55 percent while holding the visiting Saxons to 38-percent shooting. Nazareth (5-11, 2-5 Empire 8) led at the half 45-37, shooting 57 percent to Alfred’s 46 percent. The Golden Flyers built their lead after intermission, shooting 54 percent in the second half to only 30 percent for AU.

Alfred (7-10, 2-6 Empire 8) was paced by junior forward Jared Patt (Nelson, PA/Elkland), with a game-high 21 points on seven-of-11 shooting (three of seven from three-point range) and a team-leading eight rebounds. Sophomore point guard Gary Kwiecien (Perry, NY/Perry) had 16 points and three assists, while senior forward Carl Embury (Perry, NY/Perry) had 11 points and five boards.

Corey McAdam had a triple double – 11 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists – to lead Nazareth. Jeff DeHimer scored a team-best 14 points and Ryan McAdam had 11 points and nine boards.

Alfred is in action next on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 8 p.m. at RIT.
