AU men’s basketball team falls to visiting Nazareth

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University men’s basketball team lost to visiting Nazareth College, 80-66, Tuesday night at the McLane Center.

Nazareth (10-11, 7-5 Empire 8) outrebounded AU 47-31 and made seven three-point shots. Nazareth led at the half, 37-27, and used 52-percent shooting after intermission to pull away. Alfred (7-14, 2-10 Empire 8) made 81 percent of its free throws, but shot only 39 percent from the field, including 18 percent (three of 17) from three-point range.

Junior guard Bobby Barry (Duanesburg, NY/Duanesburg) paced four Saxons in double figures with 16 points and five rebounds. Junior forward Jared Patt (Nelson, PA/Elkland) had 13 points and seven boards; sophomore guard Mike Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) had 12 points and five rebounds; and sophomore point guard Gary Kwiecien (Perry, NY/Perry) netted 11 points and dished out six assists.

Ryan McAdam led Nazareth with a game-high 26 points and 15 rebounds. Corey McAdam had 15 points, seven boards, six assists and three steals, while Jeff DeHimer (six rebounds) and Phil Scaffidi scored 19 and 13 points, respectively.

AU is in action next on Friday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. at Empire 8 foe Elmira.
