Men’s tennis team drops weekend pair

ERIE, PA — The Alfred University men’s tennis team lost a pair of matches played over the weekend at Penn State-Behrend. The Saxons lost to Behrend on Friday (8-1) and Frostburg (MD) State (5-4) on Saturday to fall to 2-2 on the season.

Freshman Kyle McDevitt (Underhill, VT/Mt. Mansfield Union) earned Alfred’s lone victory in the matches against Behrend, taking fifth singles, 7-6, 2-6, 10-3.

Winning singles matches for AU against Frostburg were: freshman Nathan Garletts (Havertown, PA/Haverford), 6-2, 6-4 in second singles; and sophomore Ryan Parlia (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South), 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 in fifth singles.

AU took two of three doubles matches against Frostburg. Garletts and senior Nick Middaugh (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley) won second doubles, 8-6; and Parlia and senior Tim Pruyn (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara Wheatfield) took third doubles, also by an 8-6 count.

Alfred is in action next on Monday, March 30, at 4 p.m. at home against Ithaca.
