AU English equestrian team competes at Regionals; three advance to Zones

CANTON, NY — Nine members of the Alfred University English equestrian team competed at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone II, Region II championships, held Saturday, March 28, at St. Lawrence University.

Three AU riders — sophomore Barb Koziol (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) in novice equitation over fences, senior Robyn Murray (Albany, NY/Academy of Holy Names) in walk-trot-canter, and sophomore Maire Cosgrove (White Haven, PA/Bishop Hoban) in open equitation on the flat — qualified to compete in the IHSA Zone II championships at Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ, on Saturday, April 4.

Riders finishing either first or second in their respective events at the Zone championships qualify to compete at the IHSA National Championships, scheduled this year for April 23-26 in Murfreesboro, TN.

Other AU riders who competed at the Regional show but did not advance to Zones were: sophomore Sandy Burnley (Bayside, NY/St. Francis Prep) in walk-trot; sophomore Michelle Flannery (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) in advanced walk-trot-canter; senior Lyndsey Patterson (Belmont, NH/Belmont) in advanced walk-trot-canter; freshman Kelly Rinebold (Ontario, NY/Wayne) in novice equitation over fences; junior Beth Ulbrecht (Penn Furnace, PA/State College) in novice equitation on the flat and intermediate equitation over fences; and senior Theresa Wills (Ransomville, NY/Lewiston-Porter) in open equitation over fences.
