AU men’s tennis team shuts out Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, PA — The Alfred University men’s tennis team won its second match of the season against Pitt-Bradford Monday afternoon, shutting out the host Panthers, 9-0. AU improved to 4-6 on the season. The Saxons had previously beaten Pitt-Bradford in the season opener, March 17 in Olean.

Alfred got singles wins from sophomore Connor Houghton (Orleans, MA/Nauset Regional), 6-0, 6-0 in first singles; freshman Nate Kucko (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks), 6-4, 5-0 (ret.) in second singles; freshman Nathan Garletts (Havertown, PA/Haverford), 6-0, 6-1 in third singles; senior Nick Middaugh (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley), 6-1, 7-5 in fourth singles; freshman Kyle McDevitt (Underhill, VT/Mt. Mansfield Union), 6-4, 6-3 in fifth singles; senior Tim Pruyn (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara Wheatfield), 6-1, 6-1 in sixth singles.

AU won all three doubles matches. Houghton and Kucko won first doubles, 8-0; Garletts and Middaugh teamed to win second doubles, 8-1; and McDevitt and Pruyn won third doubles, 8-3.

AU is in action this afternoon, April 14, at 4 p.m. at Roberts Wesleyan.
