Saxons qualify to compete in two events at Penn Relays

PHILADEPHIA, PA — The Alfred University men’s outdoor track and field team will compete in two events at the Penn Relays, set for April 23-25 at the University of Pennsylvania.

Qualifying to compete at the meet are sophomore Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga), in the shot put; and the Saxons’ 4X400-meter relay team of freshman Richard Scott (Eden, NY/Eden), junior Lee Consolo (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville), senior Erik Jezek (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg) and junior Matt Phillips (Kinderhook, NYT/Ichabod Crane).

Alternates for AU in the 4X400 are freshmen Anthony DeGroat (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) and Ben Pelto (Jefferson, MA/West Boylston).

The AU men’s and women’s track and field teams are in action this Saturday, April 18, at the Empire 8 Conference championship meet in Pittsford, NY, hosted by Nazareth College. Team members not participating in the Penn Relays the following weekend will be at the Big Red Invitational, hosted by Cornell University, on Saturday, April 25.
