AU women’s lacrosse team drops 17-7 decision to Stevens in season finale

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University women’s lacrosse team wrapped up its 2009 season with a 17-7 loss to Stevens Institute of Technology Sunday afternoon at Merrill Field.

Stevens (15-0, 8-0 Empire 8), the Empire regular season champion, outshot Alfred 45-16 and held a 17-9 advantage in draw controls. The visiting Ducks held a 8-4 lead at the half and led 15-4 midway through the second.

AU (4-7, 1-7 Empire 8) got three goals from sophomore attack Michelle Adams (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads). Scoring single goals for AU were freshman attack Ivy Lam (Sanford, ME/Sanford), junior defender Emily Steen (South Pasadena, CA/Purnell), junior midfielder Amanda Sullivan (Lexington, MA/Lexington) and junior defender Lisa Button (Troupsburg, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg).

Pamela Loria had five goals, an assist and four groundballs, and Alyssa Pigott had three goals and two assists to lead Stevens.

Sophomore goalie Kate Baughman (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) made 20 saves for Alfred. Stevens netminder Grace Stack stopped seven AU shots.
