AU slates events for Homecoming Weekend 2009

Alumni, students, parents, and community residents are invited to the Alfred University for the Saxon’s first home game to enjoy Homecoming weekend 2009 events.

Events kickoff Friday night, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. with the Homecoming bonfire (sponsored by the AU PRIDE Organization & WALF, the campus radio station) on the McLane lawn. There will be giveaways by WALF for best purple & gold face painting and the opportunity to meet the Homecoming candidates and meet the football team. Marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate will be supplied to make s’mores. Be sure to wear your purple & gold to show your Saxon pride!

Homecoming day begins Saturday, Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. with the annual Tailgate Picnic in the tent on McLane lawn (sponsored by the Alumni Association). A full day of activities includes:
11 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Tailgate Picnic – Everyone is welcome to the tent on McLane Lawn (sponsored by the Alumni Association). Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $5 for AU students, faculty and staff; children under 12 eat free.

1 p.m. - Football game kickoff – Alfred Saxons vs. St. Lawrence Saints
Tickets: $5 for adults, $2 for children under 12, free for AU students (with ID), faculty and staff.
Halftime Reception – co-sponsored by the Friends of Saxon Athletics and the Alumni Association. Everyone is welcome!

Approximately 1 p.m. — Alumni Association Museum and Wine Tasting Trip – For those who do not wish to attend the game, the Alumni Association is introducing a trip following the tailgate luncheon and returning in time for the Hall of Fame Banquet. Registered alumni will board an AU bus to Hammondsport for a tour of the Glenn Curtis Museum and wine tasting at the Heron Hill Winery. The all-inclusive cost is $20 per person.

4 p.m. Carillon Recital – The Davis Memorial Carillon. Come and enjoy a free afternoon concert after the game by University Carillonneur Laurel Buckwalter ‘89. Buckwalter has been the school’s carillonneur since 1994, playing the 47-bell Davis Memorial Carillon. She is a member of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America. Courageous folk are welcome to try to play the carillon. Or listeners may sit on benches below the carillon and take in the beauty of the campus.

5 p.m. Hall of Fame Reception – Come to Kenyon and Allen halls to enjoy the reception then head over to dinner! Celebrate AU’s Hall of Fame with the induction of the following new members:
Rob Lattimer ’83 – Swimming & Diving
Brooke White ’99 – Ski Team
Davis O’Brien ’87 – Men’s Track

6 p.m. Banquet – Come to the Knight Club at Powell Campus Center to dine after a full day of events with your family, alumni friends, and dedicated community members. Tickets are $30 per person (includes reception).
