AU women’s tennis team wins two of three at Behrend tournament

ERIE, PA — The Alfred University women’s tennis team won two of three matches played Saturday at the Penn State-Behrend Invitational Tournament.

AU (4-2, 0-1 Empire 8) defeated Chatham, 4-1, and Frostburg (MD) State, 3-2, before falling to host Behrend, 4-1.

Against Chatham, AU got singles wins from sophomore Sarah Foster (Adelaide, Australia/Sparta, NJ), 8-1 in second singles; junior Autumn McLain (Oneida, NY/Oneida), 8-2 in third singles; senior Holly Seidewand (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), 8-0 in fourth singles. Junior Kate Cohen (Bradford, PA/Bradford) and sophomore Shannon Tovey (Chester, CT/Valley Regional) won their doubles match, 8-2.

Foster (8-3 in second singles), McLain (8-4 in third singles) and Seidewand (8-1 in fourth singles) won their matches against Frostburg. Seidewand earned Alfred’s only win against Behrend, taking fourth singles 8-6.

AU is in action next on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 4 p.m. at home against Elmira.
