Volleyball team drops three at Elmira Tournament 9/14/09
AU (0-6, 0-0 Empire 8) lost Friday evening, 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-12), to Pitt-Bradford. The Lady Saxons dropped a 3-0 decision (25-20, 25-10, 25-10) to host Elmira on Saturday morning before falling in four games (25-14, 25-15, 22-25, 25-19) to Hartwick Saturday afternoon. Against Pitt-Bradford, AU was led by sophomore Emily Crosby (Fairport, NY/Fairport) with six kills and eight digs; senior Emily Steen (South Pasadena, CA/Purnell) with four kills, seven digs and three blocks; and senior Emma Walsh (Lancaster, NY/Mt. St. Mary) with 14 assists and seven digs. Walsh had 13 assists and five digs in the match against Elmira. Junior Tara Quigley (Bluepoint, NY/Bayport-Bluepoint) added four kills, a block and three digs; and Crosby had five kills and three digs. In the Hartwick match, Crosby had eight kills and 14 digs; Steen had seven kills and 19 digs; Walsh had 29 assists and nine digs; Quigley had eight kills and a pair of blocks; and senior Janelle Brandow (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) had seven kills, three digs and a block. AU is in action next on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. at Roberts Wesleyan. |
