Saxons defeat Pitt-Bradford, 3-1

ALFRED, NY —The Alfred University men’s soccer team defeated Pitt-Bradford, 3-1, Tuesday evening.

Freshman midfielder Tony Gai (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) scored the first goal for Alfred 2:07 into the game. Freshman forward Frankie Mannino (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) netted the Saxons’ second goal at 18:02 in the first half. Alfred’s third goal came from junior midfielder Mark Nesbitt (Nunda, NY/Keshequa) on a free kick pass from sophomore midfielder Cory Hill (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) with 6:27 remaining in the game.

Zachary Carson scored the lone goal for Pitt-Bradford (0-5) with just under three minutes remaining in the game.

The Saxons outshot Pitt-Bradford 19-9. Sophomore goalie Elliot Thorpe (Highlands Ranch, CO/Thunder Ridge) played the first 62:07 in net for Alfred and made four saves. Senior Pat Grimmer (Bath, NY/Haverling) played the remaining 27:53 in the game. Pitt-Bradford’s goalie Tyler Williams made nine saves in the game.

Alfred (4-1) will play again this Saturday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. in Wilkes-Barre, PA against host Kings.
