ITHACA, NY – Host Ithaca College shut out the Alfred University women’s soccer team, 6-0, Wednesday evening in a game shortened by lightning.

Ithaca (6-1-0, 4-0-0 Empire 8) led 4-0 at the half and scored twice more in the second before the contest was stopped with a little more than 15 minutes remaining in regulation. Kelly Hand had two goals and an assist and Amy Scheffer added a pair of goals for the Bombers, who outshot AU 33-1.

Sophomore Shanna Ewoldt (Tuscon, AZ/Waubansie Valley) made 12 saves in goal for Alfred (1-5-1, 0-4-0 Empire 8). Alyssa Sotomayor played the first half in net for Ithaca and made one save. Jessica Platt and Becca Salant split time in the second frame and weren’t called on to make a save.

Alfred is in action next on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 5 p.m. at home against Penn College of Technology.
