CAZENOVIA, NY -- The Alfred University volleyball team earned its first win of the season Saturday afternoon, edging host Cazenovia 3-2.

The Lady Saxons (1-14, 0-4 Empire 8) lost two of the first three games (26-16, 23-25, 15-25) before rallying to take the last two (25-16, 15-10).

Senior Emily Steen (South Pasadena, CA/Purnell) had 13 kills and 14 digs for AU. Sophomore Emily Crosby (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had 10 kills and 14 digs; senior Janelle Brandow (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) had 17 kills; senior Emma Walsh (Lancaster, NY/Mt. St. Mary) had 46 assists and a pair of services aces; and junior Erika Huyck (Forestville, NY/Forestville) had 15 digs and three aces.

AU plays next on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. against visiting Hilbert in the Lady Saxons' 2009 home finale.
