AU women’s basketball team beats Keuka, 53-43
AU (2-0, 0-0 Empire 8) and Keuka (0-2) were tied, 21-21, at the half as both teams struggled with turnovers and poor shooting from the field. AU had nine turnovers and shot 27 percent in the first frame, while Keuka had 13 miscues and shot 33 percent. The teams remained close for much of the second half before AU outscored the visitors 8-2 over the final six minutes to pull away.
For the game, AU shot 35 percent and had 21 turnovers; Keuka shot 29 percent and had 24 turnovers.
Sophomore guard Christina Jordan (Cornwall-on-the-Hudson, NY/Cornwall) and senior forward Alysha Dias (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) each netted 11 points to lead Alfred. Senior guard Lisa Button (Troupsburg, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) and junior guard Lyndsay Murphy (Almond, NY/Hornell) scored nine and eight points, respectively. Junior forward Autumn McLain (Oneida, NY/Oneida) had a team-best eight rebounds and senior forward Libby Meier (Rochester, NY/Greece Odyssey) added seven.
Brittany Schrock scored a game-high 11 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for Keuka. Jessica Fink had eight points and Nadia Madmoune added six points and eight boards.
Alfred is in action next on Friday at 6 p.m. against Hartwick in the first round of the Buffalo State Tournament.
