Lady Saxons defeat Hartwick, 73-52, at Buffalo State College Tournament

BUFFALO, NY – The Alfred University women’s basketball team defeated Hartwick, 73-52, Friday afternoon in the first round at the Buffalo State College Tournament.

AU (3-0, 0-0 Empire 8) trailed Hartwick 13-8 six minutes into the first half. Alfred took a 15-13 lead 10 minutes into the game with a three pointer scored by junior point guard Lyndsay Murhphy (Almond, NY/Hornell) and Hartwick (1-1) trailed the remainder of the game. Alfred shot 42.9 percent from behind the arc and 44.6 percent in field goals. Hartwick shot 38.8 percent and had 20 turnovers in their loss.

Murphy scored a game-high 20 points, dished out seven assists and grabbed three steals for AU. Junior forward Autumn McLain (Oneida, NY/Oneida) played a solid game scoring 16 points, grabbing nine rebounds and making one assist. Senior forward Alysha Dias (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) netted nine points and senior guard Lisa Button (Troupsburg, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) and senior forward Libby Meier (Rochester, NY/Greece Odyssey) each scored eight points.

Jolicia Conell scored a team-high 15 points and pulled down five rebounds for Hartwick. Shamia Dean and Heather Pruchansky each scored eight points.

Alfred is in action next on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the tournament championship against the winner of Friday’s other first-round game between Buffalo State and Russell Sage.
