Lady Saxons win championship, 62-46, at Buffalo State College Tournament

BUFFALO, NY – The Alfred University women’s basketball team defeated Buffalo State, 62-46, Saturday afternoon in the championship at the Buffalo State College Tournament.

AU (4-0, 0-0 Empire 8) started the game trailing 12-6 nine minutes into the first half, but took the lead for good with a three-pointer by sophomore guard Christina Jordan (Cornwall on Hudson, NY/Cornwall) with seven minutes remaining in the first half. Alfred shot 48 percent from behind the arc and 44 percent overall. Buffalo State shot 26 percent and had 14 turnovers.

Jordan and junior point guard Lyndsay Murphy (Almond, NY/ Hornell) each scored a game-high 17 points. Murphy had four assists and five rebounds and Jordan added three assists and two rebounds. Junior forward Autumn McLain (Oneida, NY/Oneida) tallied a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards. Senior guard Lisa Button (Troupsburg, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) chipped in eight points.

Divine Sebuharara had a game-high 12 rebounds and scored eight points for Buffalo State. Sarah Thompson scored a team-high 12 points and grabbed four rebounds. Kristin Ritch and Staci McElroy each added six points to go along with McElroy’s six rebounds and three assists and Ritch’s four rebounds.

Murphy was named tournament MVP and McLain was named to the All-Tournament team.

Alfred is in action next on Tuesday Nov. 24, at 6 p.m. at Houghton College.
