AU English equestrian team performs well at Nazareth, Geneseo

PITTSFORD, NY — The Alfred University English equestrian team competed in two shows the weekend of Nov. 14-15 at Lehman Farms in Pittsford, NY. The Saxons took third of 15 teams competing in a show hosted by Nazareth Nov. 14 and second of 15 teams at a show hosted by Geneseo Nov. 15.

Junior Michelle Flannery (Syracuse, NY/Westhill), in novice equitation on the flat, was Alfred’s only first-place winner in the Nazareth show. Earning second-place ribbons for AU that day were: junior Barbara Koziol (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden), in open equitation over fences; sophomore Kelly Rinebold (Ontario, NY/Wayne), in intermediate equitation over fences; sophomore Katie LeSuer (Edinboro, PA/Cambridge Springs) in advanced walk-trot-canter; and freshman Danielle Delaria in beginner walk-trot-canter.

Earning first-place ribbons for AU in the Geneseo show were: senior Jessica Tufariello (Point Pleasat Beach, NJ) in open equitation over fences; junior Johanna Moore (Summit, NY/Morristown-Beard) in intermediate equitation on the flat; sophomore Danielle Ross (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter’s) in novice equitation over fences; Flannery in novice equitation on the flat; sophomore Danielle Ross (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter’s) in novice equitation over fences; senior Alicia Pickett-Hale (Concord, NH/Concord) in intermediate equitation on the flat; freshman Tesla Parker (Waitsfield, VT) in novice equitation over fences; and LeSuer in advanced walk-trot-canter.

Second-place finishers for AU in the Geneseo show were: Rinebold in intermediate equitation over fences; senior Kate West (Pavilion, NY/Pavilion) in intermediate equitation over fences; Parker in novice equitation on the flat; freshman sophomore Jessica Maffey (Richmond, VA), in beginner walk-trot-canter in advanced walk-trot-canter; sophomore Jessica Maffey (Richmond, VA), in beginner walk-trot-canter; and sophomore Zhenia Bemko (Cranford, NJ) in walk-trot.

The AU English equestrian team is in action next on Saturday, Nov. 21, at St. Lawrence and Sunday, Nov. 22, at Cazenovia.
