ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University men’s basketball team was defeated by St. John Fisher, 73-40, Tuesday evening at the McLane Center.

Fisher scored the first two points and maintained the lead for the entire game. For the game, Fisher (8-2, 4-0 Empire 8) shot 58 percent and AU shot 26 percent.

Michael Wopperer scored a game-high 17 points for the Cardinals. Matt Newman netted 12 points and Jordan Gettings added 10 points and had five assists.

Junior guard Mike Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) and senior guard Bobby Barry (Duanesburg, NY/Duanesburg) each scored a team-high 10 points for the Saxons. Senior forward Ron Smith (Lyons, NY/Lyons) pulled down a team-high five rebounds.

Alfred (6-4, 0-2 Empire 8) is in action next on Friday, Jan. 8, at 8 p.m. at Hartwick.
