Ithaca knocks off Lady Saxons, 67-33

ITHACA, NY -- Host Ithaca used solid shooting to pull away from Alfred University in the second half and earn a 67-33 victory in Empire 8 Conference women's basketball action Friday evening.

Neither team shot well in the opening frame. Ithaca shot 36 percent and Alfred 19 percent and the host Bombers held a 23-18 lead at the half. Ithaca shot 53 percent in the second to outsore Alfred (23 percent), 44-18, after intermission. For the game, Ithaca outshot AU, 45-21 percent.

Junior guards Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) and Lyndsay Murphy (Almond, NY/Hornell) each scored six points to pace Alfred. The pair each pulled down three rebounds and Lincoln added three steals. Senior forward Alysha Dias (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) had four points and a game-high 10 rebounds for AU (6-7, 1-4 Empire 8).

Lindsay Brown had a game-high 14 points to lead three players in double figures for Ithaca (11-4, 6-0 E8). Jordan Confessore had 13 points and eight rebounds and Elissa Klie added 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and six steals.

Alfred is in action next on Sunday, Jan. 15, at 1 p.m. at the College of New Rochelle.
