ALFRED, NY — Junior guard Mike Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) scored 26 points to lead the Alfred University men’s basketball team in their win over visiting Penn State Wilkes-Barre, 68-54, Tuesday evening.

Alfred (9-10, 2-8 Empire 8) led Wilkes-Barre, 40-22, at the end of the first half. For the game, AU shot 43 percent and Wilkes-Barre shot 38 percent.
AU freshman guard Sean Curran (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) netted nine points and freshman center Bryan Bobo (Ontario, NY/Wayne Central) added eight points and had a game-high six assists.

Colin Nurse scored a team-high 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Wilkes-Barre (10-9). Frank Peters added 10 points and Shawn Washington chipped in with nine points.

Alfred is in action next on Feb. 5, at 8 p.m. vs. Ithaca.
