Seven Saxons earns indoor track and field all-conference honors 2/03/10
All-conference honors were determined by results from the Empire 8 indoor track and field championships, held Sunday at RIT. Athletes placing first in an event earned First Team all-conference honors; runners-up were named to the Second Team. AU junior Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) won the shot put (13.51 meters) and was named to the First Team. It marks the second straight year Ross was named a First Team conference all-star in the shot put and the third straight year he was named a conference all-star. He was Second Team all-conference in 2008. Earning Second Team honors from the Alfred men’s team were freshman Mike Raplee (Dundee, NY/Dundee) in the shot put (12.87 meters) and junior Markenson Joseph (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth Regional) in the weight throw (13.73 meters). Four members of the AU women’s team — senior Rachel Gaylord (Elmira, NY/Horseheads), freshman Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell), junior Melissa Haahr (Owego, NY/Tioga) and senior Megan Crimmins (Big Flats, NY/Horseheads) — earned Second Team honors. The group took second in the women’s distance medley relay (13:34.98). The AU men’s and women’s teams compete next on Saturday, Feb. 6, at Syracuse. |
