Saxon track and field teams compete at Syracuse Invitational
SYRACUSE, NY – The Alfred University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed Saturday at the Syracuse Invitational. There were no team scores.
Juniors Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) and Markenson Joseph (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth Regional) and sophomore Richard Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) turned in top-10 performances to pace the AU men. Ross was third in the shot put (14.06 meters); Joseph was seventh in the weight throw (15.08 meters); and Scott was sixth in the 400-meter run (51.12 seconds). The team of senior Lee Consolo (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville), senior Matt Phillips (Kinderhook, NY/Ichabod Crane), Scott and sophomore Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes) placed ninth in the 4X400-meter relay (3:34.88).
Freshman Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) placed 14th in the long jump (5.95 meters) and 17th in the 55-meter dash (6.87 seconds); senior Ned Lessig (Reading, PA/Wilson) was 20th in the 55-meter hurdles (8.86 seconds); and Consolo was 23rd in the 800-meter run (2:01.50).
Freshman Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York) placed 10th in the shot put (10.10 meters) and senior Megan Crimmins (Big Flats, NY/Horseheads) was 11th in the mile run (5:27.72) to lead the AU women.
Other top performers for the Alfred women were freshman Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell), 18th in the 500-meter run (1:28.33); junior Nicole Haahr (Owego, NY/Tioga), 19th in the 500-meter run (1:29.39); senior Rachel Gaylord (Elmira, NY/Horseheads), 24th in the 800-meter run (2:33.04); freshman Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia), 25th in the 55-meter dash; and sophomore Annie Mills (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough), 26th in the 55-meter hurdles (11.6 seconds).
AU is in action next on Saturday, Feb. 13, when the men’s and women’s teams travel to Ithaca for the Cornell-hosted Kane Invitational.
