Welcome to Alfred University! You're going to learn quite a bit outside the classroom, and we're the people that will provide you opportunities in leadership, teamwork, self-expression, social engagement and responsibility, and much more. The Student Affairs division:

The student affairs division values continuous improvement and we strive to grow as a division. Recently we concluded three year-long studies: the Residence Life Task Force, the Leadership Team, and the First Year Experience team. Please feel free to review the results.

Several times I've been asked to define the "Alfred experience." To me, it's as simple as saying "hello." Unlike most places I've visited, it is very common to walk across our campus and have someone look at you, smile and say hello. That small gesture signifies our deep commitment to creating a warm, caring and compassionate community where all are welcome.

Students come to Alfred with the hope of attaining great things - whether it's academic success, artistic recognition, athletic excellence or life-long friendships. All those goals are within reach. When we accepted you, it was with the expectation you would do great things, but more importantly, that you'll be an active, productive and contributing member of our campus community.

I sincerely hope you will give back by attending one of our many cultural events; becoming a volunteer, tutor or mentor; joining a team, club or other campus organization; helping with a local charity; assisting someone who seems to be having a rough time; or inviting a faculty/staff member to a residence hall program. By getting out of your comfort zone and trying new things, you will acquire valuable skills to take with you beyond Alfred.

As your Dean of Students, I need your help in promoting the mission and goals of the University. We need an academic community that is a safe and supportive environment for all. If there is anything I can do to help you facilitate your "Alfred experience," please let me know.
