Summer Programs
Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute

Sorry. This institute is no longer available.

The information below refers to Summer 2008.

This exciting residential institute is for high school students entering their junior or senior years who wish to learn more about entrepreneurship and the world of business, to sample life on a college campus, and to meet other students with similar interests and academic ability.

Students participate in interactive sessions dealing with a variety of topics relevant to entrepreneurs. When not in class, students enjoy planned activities on campus as well as free time for relaxation. Living, dining and learning together, they have ample opportunity to get to know each other and develop lasting friendships.

The objective of the institute is to help junior/senior level high school students to understand the new venture development process and the benefits of entrepreneurship, examine and manage risks/rewards involved in new business development as well as explore utilization of virtual business techniques and venture teams. The workshops will emphasize the practical side of entrepreneurship and the institute leaders will continually relate learning and activities to student ideas. Given the customized nature of the institute, it will be most beneficial if students come with business ideas that they would like to further explore and utilize during the institute break out sessions. Students will work in teams to develop business ideas throughout the week. The number of participants in this program is kept small (20-25) to allow for individualized attention and optimal use of facilities and equipment.

Course Content
This institute will provide a comprehensive overview of the new venture development process from idea generation and refinement through product and service development, organization building and marketing planning. Live case histories will be used to illustrate concepts and students will apply individual ideas for reinforcement through team building exercises.
