Alfred University Professor of Dance D. Chase Angier, Performing Arts Division, is presenting artwork in the 69th Rochester-Finger Lakes Exhibition at Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester. This long-standing juried show highlights artists from across the western New York region and is a major celebration of regional creativity.
Angier says her contribution to the exhibition, Lure, “emerged from my practice as a site-responsive choreographer and walking artist.” The image, drawn from a recent trip to Paris, “is a distillation of hundreds of hours walking and countless moments of discovery into only a few digital still images. In this way, the work echoes my site-responsive choreography: the act of discovery and refinement culminates in a shared moment of experience. When these images are printed, framed, and shared with a live audience, I believe the work comes fully into being.”
Lure emerged from more than 50 miles of Angier’s walks through Paris. “Spending months attentively and intuitively walking five to ten miles daily, I allowed these environments to inform my creative process.”
Angier notes: “I walk without a map, plan, or destination. I move toward whatever draws me in that moment—a sound, a site, or something visual.”
The exhibition is now open to the public and runs through Oct. 5, 2025. For more information, visit mag.rochester.edu/exhibitions/69-rflx.
