Landon DeKay, an Alfred University Master of Business Administration student with a concentration in accounting, was recently honored by the Rochester Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYCPA).

Landon, from Orchard Park, NY, was among eight students from colleges and universities across Rochester and the Upstate New York region who received Outstanding Accounting Student awards at the Rochester chapter of NYCPA’s annual recognition awards dinner on Thursday, April 17, at Midvale Country Club in Rochester.

Theresa Gunn, associate professor of accountancy and associate dean of the College of Business at Alfred University, said the award recognizes academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to the accounting profession. “This award celebrates not only Landon’s hard work and achievements in the classroom but also his bright future in public accounting,” she said.

Gunn said Landon has already completed three sections of the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam—an impressive accomplishment even before graduation—and will be joining the accounting firm of Ernst & Young after earning his MBA in May. He previously earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Syracuse University.

Landon is the son of Amy DeKay, vice president for Student Experience at Alfred University. Members of his family, along with Gunn and fellow Alfred University associate professor of accounting Ali Coskun, attended the dinner to celebrate his milestone.
