Two Alfred University College of Business faculty accompanied five entrepreneurial-minded students to the Student Run Business Association’s SURGE Expo Oct. 16-18 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. The event brought together participants from institutions with top business programs such as Harvard, Columbia, and Loyola, as well as institutions, like Alfred, with growing entrepreneurship programs.

A group of Alfred State College marketing and business students recently visited Alfred University, where they toured a College of Business facility used for market research projects. The 13 students from the Consumer Behavior class taught by Susan Gorman, associate professor of marketing at Alfred State, participated in mock focus groups and discussed how consumer data collection is used to develop marketing strategies.

Alfred University students last week explored their future steps into the professional world through two events hosted recently by the Career Development Center: the Graduate and Professional School Fair on Sept. 18 and the fall Job and Internship Fair on Sept. 25. Altogether, the fairs drew more than 320 students representing more than 40 different majors.

Among the honorees were Abby Hurley, coordinator of the Beth Robinson Judson Leadership Center, who received the prestigious Abigail Allen Award, and students Marcella Peccorini and Elijah Hammarlund, winners of the 2025 Marlin Miller Outstanding Senior Award.

Two courses for first-year students enrolled in the Alfred University College of Business are providing them valuable real-world business experience while also helping them to chart their academic and professional journeys. The classes—BUSI 105 (Business Perspectives) and BUSI 106 (Contemporary Business)—are mandatory first-year experience courses, taught by Dean Pauline Stamp in the fall and spring semesters, respectively.

Teams of students from Alfred University claimed the first- and second-place prizes in the fourth annual AHA! Allegany County Startup Collegiate Competition, held Saturday, April 6, on the Alfred University campus. Five teams from Alfred University and three from Alfred State College presented their ideas for creating a new business to a panel of three judges. Winning teams were awarded cash prizes, which can be used to put their business plans into action.
