Her site-specific installation, Squaring the Circle, which celebrates patterns and ornamentation, opened Nov. 18 and remains on view until March 1, 2026.

“Eliza Au explores ornament through the built environment, ceramics, and design,” according to an artist’s profile on the Crow Museum website announcing the Squaring the Circle installation, which “celebrates ornament and pattern.”

Through her Squaring the Circle installation and various other ceramic sculpture, “Au seeks to address the close affinity between ornament and abstraction. Contrary to the notion of pattern for pattern’s sake, Au casts her clay as a meditative act, and explores pattern’s ability to create a spiritual atmosphere.”

Au attended artist residencies at the Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY; the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington state; the Guldagergaard International Research Center in Skælskør, Denmark; and the Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China. Her work is included in public and private collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

A native of Vancouver, Canada, Au is currently assistant professor of Studio Art: Ceramics in the University of North Texas College of Visual Arts and Design. From 2017-19, she was a full-time faculty member of the Alfred University-CAFA Design for Industry Program at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, an Alfred University Affiliate, in Beijing, China.
