Alfred University students in the Introduction to Sculpture class taught by Bianca Boragi, visiting assistant professor of sculpture in the School of Art and Design, went on a trip to New York City the weekend of Nov. 14-16. The students visited a number of public art exhibitions, art museums and galleries, and heard an artist talk.
The students attended a private curator tour at Times Square Art to view Yvette Mayorga's commissioned public sculpture, “Magic Grasshopper,” and visited The High Line, a public park containing commissioned sculptures, including Mika Rottenberg's "Foot Fountain (pink)” interactive sculpture and "Dinosaur," a massive, hyper-realistic aluminum sculpture of a pigeon by artist Iván Argote.
They also heard Zoe Walsh's artist talk at Yossi Milo gallery and visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art's "Divine Egypt" exhibition, Whitney Museum, Little Island Garden designed by Thomas Heatherwick, Gagosian gallery's Richard Serra exhibition, Hauser and Worth gallery's Louise Bourgeois exhibition and also the Dia Beacon museum.
