Teams of students from Alfred University claimed the first- and second-place prizes in the fourth annual AHA! Allegany County Startup Collegiate Competition, held Saturday, April 6, on the Alfred University campus. Five teams from Alfred University and three from Alfred State College presented their ideas for creating a new business to a panel of three judges. Winning teams were awarded cash prizes, which can be used to put their business plans into action.

The Alfred University chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society welcomed 17 new members during induction ceremonies held April 4 in Herrick Library. Six juniors, two seniors, four graduate students, and five faculty members/staff comprised the group of inductees.

Eight Alfred University students, six of them members of the International Students Association, went on a weekend trip to Washington, D.C., where they toured the White House and visited other key sites in the nation’s capital. The trip continues the ISA’s efforts to provide students with diverse experiences through exposure to different American cities.

Alfred University announces plans to house the men’s rugby program under the University’s Athletics Department. Men’s rugby, which currently operates as a club team, will begin play as an intercollegiate varsity sport once construction of the new rugby field at the Saxon Hill Sports Complex is completed.
