Christie Smith, vice president for Enrollment Management at Alfred University, was quoted in a recently-published story in the Chronicle of Higher Education.
Smith was quoted in a story titled “How Texas Became an Enrollment Battleground,” which was published in the Chronicle on Friday, Sept. 4. The piece discusses how college recruiters nationwide are competing for an increasing number of prospective students from the Lone Star State.
Smith talked about Texas’ role in Alfred University’s out-of-state recruitment strategy amid difficult recruiting conditions in New York State. She noted Alfred’s number of admitted New York residents who have place deposits declined five percent from last fall to this fall.
“When you start stacking the loss that’s happening in New York, if you can gain plus five, plus 10 (students) in Texas, that’s going to make a big difference,” Smith said.
