Mark Zupan, Alfred University president, was a guest on the Tuesday, Feb. 10, episode of “Connections with Evan Dawson” on WXXI, Rochester’s National Public Radio affiliate.
In Tuesday’s show—titled “How government gets corrupted by insider dealing”—Zupan discussed his 2017 book, “Inside Job: How Government Insiders Subvert the Public Interest.” The book examines how government insiders, such as elected officials and bureaucrats, can prioritize their own interests over those of the public.
Also referenced during the broadcast was an op-ed Zupan wrote, titled “The decline of Venezuela was an inside job,” which was published in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle on January 18. In that piece, Zupan discusses how the once-prosperous South American nation was led into economic ruin by its elected government.
Later in the day on Tuesday, Zupan talked about his book as keynote speaker at the February dinner meeting of the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA), Rochester chapter. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., WACA supports the large nonpartisan network of U.S. local councils which are dedicated to educating, inspiring, and engaging Americans in international affairs and in critical global issues of our times. Several Alfred University students attended the meeting as Zupan’s guests.
